My boss decided to have us start doing weekly drawing challenges while the work flow is still slow. This week we could draw anything we wanted, but had to finish within an hour and stick to the 5 color palette she sent out.

Ghost World sketch - 2002

I was looking through some old journals and sketchbooks, and came across this portrait I did in 2002 from the movie Ghost World. I loved that film; suburban misfit alternateens bitching about the locals, Steve Buscemi, Scarlett Johanssen before her big break, all within the context of Daniel Clowes' graphic novel with his signature dark humor and deep insight. I paused the dvd to draw this close up, where Enid (Thora Birch) has her moment of awakening at the end.

I didn't know Daniel Clowes was a resident of Oakland until recently. Yay Bay Area :)

I put this together as the background for ClyCards.com (coming soon). The site will sell a card deck of illustrated mnemonics for vocabulary words, like the ones in this image. Studying for SAT's is no fun but Cly is hoping to change that.
