B-boy Getting Down

For visual accompaniment to that perfect beat.  It don't mean a thing if it ain't got that swing, quoth Ellington.

My Nephew Ben, Adventure Time Style

For my nephew Ben's 13th birthday, my sister thought it'd be nice to have a Ben-mitzvah to welcome him into his teen years.  We were all asked to send him a letter, take him out on some kind of adventure, or draw a picture for his voyage to manhood, so I drew this themed portrait of one of his (and my) favorite shows, and made a giclee print of it for him.

Sharkettes Soccer Shirt

Here's that girls' soccer mascot I illustrated for a friend/coach of the team.  She's looking good on that jersey.  Go Sharkettes!

Disney Interactive Weekly Drawing Challenge - Snow White

This week's theme was Snow White as it's the 75th anniversary of the film's debut, all the way back in 1937 (they had color back then?!).  For my love of the Rockabilly girl style I decided to add that twist.  I know it's been done before sort of, but more toward goth / Suicide Girls.  Unlike them, Rockabilly girls are upbeat with big, beautiful smiles on their faces, much like the mother of the style, Bettie Page :D

Disney Interactive Weekly Drawing Challenge - "Death and the Maiden"

My submission for the themed weekly drawing challenge here at Disney Interactive's Playdom, drawn on a Cintiq in Photoshop.  So much talent all up in these cubicles!

Sharkettes Logo

My first girls soccer team logo, yeah!  A favor for the bassist in my band / lawyer by day / daughter's soccer team coach, for getting me out of a sketchy situation involving a quirky insurance salesman :P  Also because he's a kick-ass dude.

Genevapop - Bottom of the Hill show flyer (unfinished)

I started to draw a poster for my band Genevapop's final show at Bottom of the Hill, August 17th in San Francisco with Tremor Low and Riot Earp (later changed to Mothra Washington, their side project).  Tremor Low already hired an artist to make one though, which is fine with me so I only got this far before I was told.  I planned on illustrating three heads to signify the sound/feel of each band, like a movie poster.  This head represents Riot Earp, a Johnny Cash influenced, Americana experimental band.  Post-punk/goth band, Tremor Low's head was going to be a woman's, like the one on their album covers.  I was going to use the singer from Siouxsie and the Banshees' head for reference, of which my band also does a remixed cover of their song Christine.  For Genevapop I was going to use Bernard Sumner of New Order's head, since I think he personifies our sound and content most accurately.  I'd have added other features like glasses so it's not false advertising of course.

Come see our show on August 17th!  I've seen the other two bands, and can tell you we all make the most of our live performance.

Character Collage

Got together with some fellow artists at Cafe du Soleil in the Lower Haight, San Francisco for a weekly drawing session called Hermit Club.  Someone suggested a possible Adventure Time theme, so I took a crack at the aesthetic here.  Maybe more like Keith Haring but nevertheless, interlocking shapes are a beautiful thing.

You Are The Light

Here's a comic about how difficult it can be to be creative with a lot on your mind, and how a certain magic happens when you choose to be anyway.  This is based on what happened the night I moved to Newark, NJ in 2005, my senior year at The School of Visual Arts.  I didn't think much of it at the time, but it was as if my lamp shined unusually bright in its last breath for me.

The title comes from when I used to see this song by Jens Lekman, on the late Brooklyn music video channel New York Noise.  I watched it when I lived in my prior windowless basement apartment in Bushwick, Brooklyn...before it was cool (d'oh).
